Abstract: One of the greatest challenges for researchers is converting scientific discoveries and innovations into successful companies. To succeed, the spin-off phase of biotechnology companies has to be crossed by bioentrepreneurs and venture capitalists, reluctant to invest in early stage biotechnology companies. The paper summarizes biotechnology commercialization in the world, marks significant biotechnology and life sciences clusters on the world map and accents results in biotechnology commercialisation in European Union and United States of America.
Keywords: biotechnology commercialisation, spin-off, bioentrepreneur, early stage development
